The challenge
Preparing the Aromatru aromatherapy diffuser for national rollout
In 2021, Ideal Living soft-launched their brand-new aromatherapy diffuser and companion app to just over 200 customers.
Before expanding to the broader US market, they needed to gather real-world feedback to ensure both the product and its digital interface met customer needs, seeing exactly how the product fit into daily routines and where friction appeared.
Project context
- Industry Consumer hardware
- Solution Product and proposition testing
- Market US
- Participants Soft-launch customers
- Methods Performance check, video diaries, screen recordings
The approach
A two-phase iterative feedback loop
Phase 1: Performance check
This provided an immediate quantitative read on the product's performance and general customer sentiment.
Phase 2: Deep-dive ethnography
We used our platform's full suite of tools, including video diaries to observe how people used the physical device and screen recordings to track how they navigated the app.
Collaborative ideation
We used our ideas board, collage, and discussion tools to invite customers to brainstorm potential improvements and new features.
The result
A clear refinement list for the US rollout
The iterative approach allowed the team to see exactly where the app was confusing and where the device did not quite fit the user's lifestyle, equipping Ideal Living with a clear set of priorities for hardware and software refinement ahead of their national US rollout.
